Today in the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan the VIII -Ре International scientific conference “Semipalatinsk Test Site: Legacy and Prospects for Scientific and Technical Potential Development” was opened.
The conference is held in Kurchatov once per 2 years. The first conference was held in 2003. This year the conference is dedicated to the following jubilee dates: 60th Anniversary of the Institute of Atomic Energy of RSE NNC RK and 25th Anniversary of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology of RSE NNC RK.
About 100 scientists and specialists participates in the VIII International conference from more than 10 countries: Russia, Japan, France, Belarus, PRC, Ukraine, Germany, Czechia, Hungary and others.
Over 150 papers have been submitted to the conference, that will be heard in plenary and breakout sessions during two scientific sections. Papers cover actual issues in area of radiation ecology and medicine, technology on radioecological risk reduction at radiation hazardous objects and territories, radioactive wastes management, physico-chemical methods application in radioecology and dosimetry issues. Papers on nuclear power security and nonproliferation issues, advanced functional materials in modern power engineering, radiation material science and solid state physics issues will be heard during scientific section “Research Nuclear Facilities”.
The conference will last three days. The program involves excursions to STS museum, tours to “Experimental Field” and “Atomic Lake” sites as well as NNC RK research base.
