KAERI Agreement was signed

Today, on September 18, at the margins of the 63rd Session of the IAEA General Conference, the Cooperation Agreement was signed between the National Nuclear Center of RK (NNC RK) and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The agreement implies bilateral scientific-technical cooperation in the areas – development of nuclear power and radioecology. The parties will cooperate in research and developments to improve the safety of current and designed nuclear reactors; scientific and methodic supply of operation and experiments at research nuclear reactors; studies in nuclear fusion, solid state physics, radiation material study and technology for obtaining new materials, studies in the field of radiation safety and radiation ecology (including reprocessing, storage and disposal of radioactive wastes), etc. As formulated by the Director General of NNC RK, Erlan Batyrbekov, in recent years, the issues regarding cooperation with organizations of the Republic of Korea have significantly advanced. In particular, in April 2019, during the visit of the President of the Republic of Korea, Moon Jae-In to Kazakhstan, the Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation with KINAC was signed. Later, in July 2019, at the invitation of the Korean side, the delegation of NNC RK visited KINAC, KAERI, and NPP, where the areas for further cooperation were considered. The result of this visit was the signing of Agreement with KAERI. The parties expressed confidence that the signed Agreement will further expand and strengthen cooperation between organizations of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea in peaceful use of atomic energy.
