Special Personnel Training

47 employees of the National Nuclear Centre of the Republic of Kazakhstan successfully passed the examinations and received certificates of the established model. This is the result of a week-long course entitled “Special Training for Personnel Responsible for Radiation Safety. Radiation Protection and Safety”.

The basis of the course were lectures and practical exercises, including legal issues for ensuring radiation safety in Kazakhstan; basic concepts of radioactivity and types of ionizing radiation; radiometry and dosimetry instruments, their technical characteristics and operating principle; radiological emergency hazards, the arrangement of response zones and means of response and the first responders shielding, the calculation of the shielding thickness from ionizing radiation sources (IRS). Personal protection equipment, radioactive waste management and decontamination techniques were also considered.
