Project #29. 2020–2022. Measures to ensure energy independence and safety of strategic facilities.

Energy independence is one of the key factors for successful development. Since NNC RK possesses considerable knowledge and facilities, the enterprise purchases over 5 thousand tons of coal every year in order to ensure heating for the facilities. Existing automobile park has grown significantly and every year fuel rate is over 800 thousand liters. To ensure uninterrupted operation, standing stock need to be provided.

Therefore, to provide energy independence and safe operation of strategic facilities, a decision was made to construct coal transloading site and petrol station.

Coal transloading site.

Since NNC had no site for coal transloading, coal has been delivered by truck to boiler plants, or using railway vehicles and transloading sites of third-party organizations. Both options were quite expensive. Thereby, in 2018 it was decided to construct the site at dead-end track of Degelen loading site. The site represents an elevated track and two concrete platforms. The platform allows simultaneous unloading of three open-top wagons. There are 100-ton truck scale installed on reinforced concrete basement near the platform that makes it possible to keep accounts of coal when distributing for enterprise branches.

Petrol station.

Construction of fuel station and fuel storage at the “Baikal” transport facilities has become one of the important projects, implemented for the recent years. Capability of petrol station is 500 fueling per day. Total volume of the petrol station reservoirs is 150m3 and fuel storage - 350 m3. NNC RK using its own resources completed the project implementation in 2020. Petrol station and fuel storage ownership significantly strengthened energy independence considering the conditions existing in Kurchatov town, allowed to reduce expenditures for fuel and lubricants, and special equipment and software made it possible to account petroleum products. Therefore, implementation of the above-mentioned projects reduced expenditures for coal for 30% and ensured sustainable fuel supply for the need of the enterprise.
