The 60th Session of Working Group B (CTBTO) is opened

It is for the first time since the pandemic that the session is held in-person. Moreover, in the work of the session the possibility is maintained to follow the discussion remotely with interpretation provided, that significantly extends the number of participating experts and contributes to the quality of discussions. The work of WGB, therefore, is back to normal, that was one of the intentions of E.G. Batyrbekov, Director General, RSE NNC RK as a Chairman.

Personal attendance of representatives from CTBT State Signatories at the session contributes to constructive discussions, effective searching for resolution to complicated issues. On the sidelines of the session, I intend to hold a number of bilateral consultations with the delegations. This provides a good opportunity to coordinate our positions, exchange views and promptly resolve the issues raised.

In accordance with the usual practice, prior to the session opening, E. Batyrbekov had a meeting with CTBTO Executive Secretary, Dr. Robert Floyd, where he informed him of complete preparedness to the session, and both exchanged their views on some items of the agenda. On the sidelines of the session, one more meeting with the Executive Secretary is scheduled in extended format, to be attended by Task Leaders and Chairpersons of expert groups, to discuss WGB and CTBTO Secretariat interaction issues.
