Visit to Idaho National Laboratory

On July 10, 2023, a meeting was held of delegation from the RK National Nuclear Center headed by E.G. Batyrbekov, Director General, and representatives from US Department of Energy and Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls (USA).

The meeting discussed current issues on the research reactor conversion in NNC RK, technical issues on construction of mine storage at the territory of operating NNC RK facility, and prospects for cooperation.

The experience gained by both parties in nuclear and radioactive wastes management enables finding optimal solution to the issue of managing highly-enriched fuel from the IVG.1M research reactor, and accumulated radioactive wastes in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Within the working week the visit schedule includes tours to reactor facilities, operating mine storage and research benches available at Argonne National Laboratory.
