On the threshold of the International Day of Antinuclear Test Actions, the National Nuclear Center RK hosted tours of the exhibition hall of the Semipalatinsk Test Site (STS) for Kazakhstanis and residents from near and far abroad.
The hall presents genuine exhibits and scientific documents. The stock numbers about 100 storage units.
A programed control unit AP2 of the first generation manufactured in 1955 is a unique relict. It is designed for actuating the nuclear charge detonation and recording equipment installed at the ‘Experimental Field’.
Some of instruments presented in the exhibition hall were developed and manufactured specifically for the first nuclear blast. In 1953, exactly this equipment developed by the Institute of Earth’s physics, allowed a high-speed survey. For instance, a long-focus motion picture camera AKS-II-1000 designed for a large-scale survey during experimental activities was capable of making 1,000,000 frames per second.
Considering a great interest in visiting the exhibition hall of the STS history, a Welcome Day practice will continue.
