Issues Related to RW Management are on the Agenda

A discussion on radioactive waste management took place at the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan as part of a meeting with Russian specialists from JSC "TVEL".

Experts exchanged their opinions on key aspects of the radioactive waste management system, application of advanced technologies for waste disposal, personnel training, work on public engagement and also discussed legal regulation of this field in accordance with the national legislation.

For reference. The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the leading scientific research organization in the atomic industry of the country with. It has the largest and modern experimental base including unique research nuclear reactors – IVG.1M and IGR, the Kazakhstan Thermonuclear Material Testing Tokamak KTM, facilities and benches to carry out various out- of-pile experiments, specialized laboratories for a wide range of physical and radiological studies and a network of geophysical monitoring stations integrated into the international nuclear testing monitoring system.

JSC “TVEL” is an industry integrator of “Rosatom” for the decommissioning of nuclear and radiation-hazardous facilities including operations with NPP reactor facilities, in-vessel primary circuit facilities and radioactive waste management. Since 2021, JSC “TVEL” has served as a base organization for CIS countries in the management of spent fuel, radioactive waste and the decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities.
